BALCONY OF EXTREMADURA

Montanchez is located in the Sierra de Montanchez, known by its nickname of the “Balcony of Extremadura” which dominates the huge green carpet of the Extremaduran plains, recognised as"Dehesa de Extremaudra (the Pasture of Extremadura)" and which stretches for hundreds of kilometres towards the horizon.

EXCELLENT GEOGRAPHICAL AND WEATHER CONDITIONS

Montánchez is at an approximate height of 1000 metres above sea level and is enveloped in thick, icy fog during winter. This factor plays a crucial role and provides the ideal conditions for the production of Iberian products. The magical Sierra wind caresses the town like a divine touch, especially on Iberian products that are in their maturation phase in this idyllic place.

TOWN THAT LIVES WITH IBERIAN PIGS

Ibersélec Hams are “bred” in the Iberian curing cradle, as Montánchez is known. In this town, everyone lives their lives close to Iberian pigs, and the time of "Matanza" (slaughter) and preparation is marked on the calendar of local families.

MONTANCHEGO LIFE

In that festive time, the fathers butcher the pigs, the children remove the blood, the grandmothers clean the intestines and the mothers prepare the cold meats following the family recipe, while the fresh loins roast on the fire. Montanchez is a place where human life harmonises with the ecosystem and is accompanied by Nature’s rhythm.
