Once they reach their ideal weight, our animals play, explore and feed in a paradise formed by extensive light and dark oak forests, located in one of the best-preserved ecosystems in Europe that is abundant in aromatic herbs as well as spring water.

Spanish daily newspaper El Pais (25/Feb./2007) reported, “today it is possible to obtain products which legally qualify as Iberian pigs from feedlots supplied almost exclusively with feed. There are even large companies which produce Iberian pigs in a mass-production system and with caged pigs” and that “consumers are paying for artificial/saturated fatty acids”.

100% of Ibersélec pigs live freely in our own pasture. Located in the largest natural space in Europe, no more than 10 pigs per hectare (1 ha = equivalent to a football field) live on the enormous Coto Naharro Farm (video>). There, the key elements for ideal breeding can be found: water and a food supply. The water sources and natural wells fill with pure water from the mountains and pastures, a natural oxidant, and therefore the pigs grow free of chemical products.

The animals are not fed with acorns throughout the entire production process, as acorns are only available from November-February. Acorn harvests are variable depending on weather conditions, and therefore some animals need to have their feed supplemented.

Our animals’ complementary feed is based on a carefully developed high quality formula, despite the consequential significant increase in production costs.

We insist on 100% control of our pigs. We do not pass on the responsibility of animal breeding to third parties as do the majority of manufacturers so as to maintain rigid compliance with our strict breeding philosophy: slow breeding, happy, stress-free life, and perfect balance of feed and physical exercise.

The outdoors and balanced feeding ensures our Iberian pigs contain unsaturated fats, which offer health and aesthetic benefits.
